Photography Highlights
Thank you to Eastern for reaching out and inviting us to participate in their exhibition at the Hope Lodge in Moosup. It was a wonderful night in a beautiful space!
Floating around downtown Putnam on our Photo 1 field trip.
Overview of the 2019 KHS Art Show. A lot of time and energy goes into putting up such a massive display, but the end result is always worth it. Look at all those impressive works of art!
I'm happy to announce that two of our students were recognized for their exemplary photographic works in the 2019 PSA Youth Showcase! Alex Morrissette for her monochrome architectural shot and Mackenzie Coffey for her color choice composite. So proud of the work you have both put in, congratulations!
This year, seven of our students were recognized in the 2019 Scholastic Art Awards. Derrick Zanni was awarded a Gold Key for his work in digital art and a Silver Key for his work in drawing and illustration. His digital art was also chosen as the top digital art image in the state. Hanna Langlois received a Gold Key for her work in photography. Jailyn Gancarz and Morriah Owen were awarded silver keys for their work in digital art. The following students were awarded honorable mentions: Eduardo Vasquez for his work in design, Tiffany Hicks for her work in sculpture, and Mia Briere for her work in drawing and illustration. Congratulations to all!
Losing electricity does not stop us. Photo 1 students used this time to practice their light painting. Shout out to all of my students for being so cooperative and flexible on such a chaotic day!
Students have been hard at work. Photo 1 just finished a lesson on the history of photography, Photo 2 is learning how to underexpose to create a silhouette, and Photo 3 is playing with composite imagery. Finished projects coming soon, but for now a sneak peek...
I can't believe that it has been over a year since I have updated the news feed! Staying on top of updates is officially my New Year's resolution, along with continuing a successful photography program that our students can be proud to be a part of! Kicking things off with a big congratulations to our five 2018 Scholastic art winners: Lillian Sandberg, Alexis Smith, Allison Bonneau, Hailey Zulkiewicz, and Jackie Gendreau! Fantastic work!
The results of the 2017 Scholastic Art Awards are in and this year we have 6 students that were recognized for their outstanding work. Please be sure to congratulate Jackie Gendreau, Ashley Livernoche, Skye Stevens, Lillian Sandberg, Megan Pulver, and Megan Cassada! Great news for a group of hard working individuals, well done!
Photo two and three took a trip to Providence, RI for a city based photo shoot. Photo two students focused on architecture and tilt-shift photography, while photo three students worked on reflective photography and photomontage. Thank you to all the parents that volunteered as chaperones, we couldn't have done it without you!
With the weather on their side, Photo one students headed out on a field trip around Killingly and Putnam to put their knowledge of compositional strategies to the test. Thank you to all my students for being "One of the best groups" to be driven around by our wonderful bus driver, Joe. Fantastic job everyone!
Photo one students participated in a discussion on the invention and evolution of photography. They then worked together to turn the kiln room into a working camera obscura!
The 2014 KHS Art Show was a huge success! Half of the gym was transformed Wednesday night into an incredible display of photography, drawing, painting, sculpture, and graphic design. Thank you to all of the students who worked so hard to help us get ready and to all of the parents and staff who came out for the event!
The results of the 2014 PSA Youth Showcase are in. Lillian Sandberg placed third in the People category and Megan Pulver placed third in Photographer's Choice! We also had two students' works, Hailey Cummings and Shyanne Metzger, get accepted to be shown at the Albuquerque Conference (only 25% of the works submitted get in)! Be sure to congratulate them all on their success!
Students in Photo 2 and Photo 3 traveled to Newport, RI to apply the skills we've been learning about and practicing in class. It certainly is nice to have a change of scenery!
KHS art students visited the Yale University Art Museum. Our guides spoke very highly of the quality and quantity of student participation. Thank you to our amazing students for being so engaged!
Photo 1 students traveled to Logee's Greenhouse for a photo shoot on color theory. I love getting out to local places and appreciate the wonderful team at Logee's for lettings us occupy their space for a bit. Thank you!
For the first time ever, KHS students were invited to submit work to the PSA Youth Showcase. The following twelve photographs were chosen to move forward in the national competition!
